Pre-festival Ukulele Workshop

A double bonus to being here at this time of year to build a ukulele is the fact that this weekend is the 46th annual Oahu Ukulele Festival!

And I had the good fortune, thanks to a pal on the Ukulele Underground forum, to be invited to participate in the 100+ strummer's group that would be playing in the afternoon at this exciting event.

Today we had a rehearsal with Roy Sakuma, the festival organizer. What fun I had not only playing along with the songs we'd be performing tomorrow but also because I was sitting next to none other than 'Mele from Maui'.

Since starting to play the ukulele I had often referred to Mele's free instructional videos and frequently enjoyed watching videos of she, and sometimes her husband too, perform concerts on the islands.

Mele was so warm and friendly, as we started the rehearsal I felt like I was there having fun with a long time friend!
