Hana Lima 'Ia - day two

Braces for the front and back of the ukulele body was the theme of most of day two. I had no idea what a major impact braces have on the sound of the instrument. Yes, they do indeed provide support however the thickness and placement pattern plays an important role in how the sound reasonates in the uke.

We measured and sanded, glued and clamped.

And then we wielded scary chisels which we needed to trim down and shape the braces.

Later in the day we turned our attention to the long process of shaping the neck. It started as a blocky piece of glued up wood.

A few cuts on the table saw then bandsaw helped us along.

Next we reached for our chisels again, rasps and sandpaper followed.

Still a long way to go, we ended the day by switching over to those braces again.
