Kamaka Factory Tour - part three

Continuing on with the ukulele making process, Fred showed us the moulds and numbering system for the ukes. They are currently making aprox 4000 ukes per year.

Next, after necks are joined to the body comes the sanding station where the ukes get sanded with progressively finer grits.

Fret wires are diligently filed so that there's no chance of injury to the player. The final fretwork is checked by four different craftspeople.

Bridges are secured after the body has been laqueured and the ukuleles will be ready to be strung.

Kamaka family members do the final quality control check before the instruments leave the factory.

Great tour! I highly recommend you take the Kamaka factory tour if ever you find yourself on Oahu!
